Tennessee’s Human Life Protection Act

Tennessee’s Human Life Protection Act (HLPA), which currently protects the unborn from abortion (an estimated 900 babies monthly), is under attack in our TN General Assembly; thus, we ought to contact our legislators with the following simple message: “I urge that you oppose all efforts to weaken the Human Life Protection Act.”  By emailing, phoning, or writing our state Senator and Representative, we Pro-Life voters will have done our part to defend the HLPA and safeguard our unborn brothers and sisters from abortion.

What message do I send to my legislators?

Dear Senator______, Dear Representative ________,

I urge that you oppose all efforts to weaken the Human Life Protection Act. Since the HLPA went into effect this past August, an estimated 900 unborn babies have been spared from abortion in Tennessee each month.

Sincerely,

Or:

TN’s Human Life Protection Act is doing what it was intended to do – saving the lives of preborn babies. The right to life is the most fundamental right. Every abortion takes the life of a preborn baby and subjects the mother to a procedure which threatens her physical, psychological, and spiritual wellbeing. I urge that you oppose any legislation which would weaken the HLPA.

(Any message similar to the above)

Guidelines for contacting our legislators:

Remember to be polite and do not threaten. If our legislator is Pro-Life, our message will serve to reinforce his or her position. Also, for every constituent contact, legislators know there are many more who are not communicating. If not Pro-Life, we will have communicated our position and can vote against him or her in a future election.

The Human Life Protection Act

The HLPA does have an exception for the life of the mother. There is an affirmative defense in the law that covers when the mother’s life is in danger or if there is danger of irreversible damage to a major organ. Also, a woman seeking an abortion is not subject to criminal prosecution. See the attachment for a copy of the law.

The Human Life Protection Act will only survive if Pro-Life voters work to preserve it.

Praise the Lord that the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the Roe decision; thus, returning the regulation of abortion to voters through their federal and state legislators. Pro-Life Tennesseans can be proud that the Human Life Protection Act (the trigger law) returned legal protection to unborn babies on August 25, 2022. ending abortion on demand in Tennessee after forty nine years. The very foundation of representative government is voters communicating with their legislators on the issues. I pray that Pro-Life Tennesseans will contact their state legislators and encourage others to do likewise. The unborn and their mothers will only continue to be spared from abortion as long as the Human Life Protection Act remains the law.

Sincerely for Life,

Kent Pruett
